MEET YOUR THERAPIST
Hello, I'm Manuela Yim — Your Guide to Breaking Free from Perfectionism
My name is Manuela Yim and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist based in La Habra, California, my own life path shapes how I hold space for yours. Here's a bit more about me— I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, raised in Koreatown, Los Angeles, and went on to graduate from UC Berkeley before earning my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University. As a 2nd generation Asian American with a multicultural background, I understand the specific struggles and strengths that come with holding multiple parts of your identity in balance while trying to discover who you truly are.
My Approach To Therapy
I specialize in working with high achieving individuals dealing with perfectionism, people pleasing, and codependency in relationships, as well as couples who are struggling with issues related to communication, trust, and emotional connection. As a second-generation Asian American, I enjoy working with those who identify as children of immigrants and all of the unique strengths and challenges associated with those identities.
My emphasis is on creating a safe space for you to heal in the context of our relationship. I believe healing begins with acknowledging our pain points for what they are and choosing to grow through the pain.
If you feel that you are ready to find your true self, let's connect. Reach out for a free consultation to see if we might be a good fit.

CLEAR ANSWERS FOR PEACE OF MIND
Everything You Need to Know About Starting Therapy
-
I offer in-person therapy at my office in La Habra, CA, and I also see clients virtually throughout the state of California — so no matter where you're located, we can likely find a way to work together.
-
I offer three main services: therapy for couples, therapy for individuals, and therapy for families. Individual therapy sessions are $155 for 50 minutes, while couples and family therapy sessions are $175 for 50 minutes. When it comes to family therapy, I typically work with parents alongside their child, though I can work with other family members involved as well.
-
I work with clients navigating burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and codependency, as well as those facing relationship or communication challenges, family expectations, religious trauma, or questions about their identity and faith. My focus isn't just on managing symptoms — I want to help you get to the root of what's really going on so the change you experience actually lasts.
-
Yes. As a second-generation Asian American myself, I have a particular passion for working with Asian Americans and children of immigrants. I understand firsthand the unique strengths and challenges that come with that identity — including navigating conflicting cultural narratives and family expectations — and I bring that understanding into our work together.
-
I draw from evidence-based approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Attachment Theory. I blend these methods together based on what fits you best, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
-
Absolutely. I've created a non-judgmental, safe, and grounded space, and I welcome clients of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, and faith backgrounds. Wherever you're coming from, you're welcome here.

At this time I do not accept insurance. If you have out of network benefits I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Please check with your health insurance provider to learn about your coverage and reimbursements rates. You may also want to ask about your deductible before you are able to receive a reimbursement.
Please be advised that working with insurance providers can lead to a non-clinical third party to dictate the duration and type of treatment you need in order for reimbursement. In most cases, insurance providers also require a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement which I would be required to submit and may have long term impact as it stays on your medical records. Working without insurance ensures greater privacy and provides you with more options for your own treatment.
