Couples Counseling in Orange County

Couples therapy is for those who are married, engaged, dating, or even in a “situationship.”

Perhaps you want to improve communication, build trust after an affair, or discuss difficult topics that affect your relationship. This will be a safe space to engage in your hot button issues, as well as learn more about yourselves and each other through the process.

According to the American Psychological Association, 40-50% of marriages end in divorce. Whether you are dating and considering marriage, engaged, or already married, couples counseling is a great way to invest in your relationship and do the work that it takes to have a thriving marriage.

Meet Manuela Yim, La Habra Couples Counselor

My name is Manuela Yim and I’m an associate marriage and family therapist.

You may be feeling like you can never communicate with your partner about hard topics without fighting or running away, you can’t seem to get over a past incident that hurt the relationship, or maybe you want to improve your intimacy and emotional connection.

I understand, and I’m here to help. I help couples work through seemingly impossible challenges that have been causing pain, anger, and resentment in their relationship.

Relationships require a lot of work and commitment to overcome both old and new wounds as they occur. As a couples therapist who specializes in repairing broken relationships, I invite you to face your relational challenges head on with my guidance.

My Approach to
Couples Counseling

No matter how well a couple may think they know each other, there is always more to discover.

My approach to couples counseling includes viewing each of you in your entirety, within the context of your background, upbringing, values, personality, and everything else that makes up who you are.

I believe that everyone has a unique story to tell, and within each of your stories lies the answer to how you see the world, and why there may be areas of conflict between your perspectives.

I provide a supportive space for you to navigate the trickier areas in your relationship, while remaining connected to each other.

I help you voice the underlying needs that each of you is crying out for, in spite of seemingly "destructive” behaviors that may hinder connection.

This may include learning how to communicate about issues that cause you to become “triggered,” such as finances, infidelity, sex, and trauma.

Together, you and your partner will learn to become a safe space for each other as you find the courage and skills to explore the unknown parts of who you are.

I use a combination of Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic, Attachment-Based Therapy, and Mindfulness in my work with couples. Each couple is unique in what they need so I tailor my approach based on what makes sense for them.

The hope is that you will see more of yourself and your partner through this process, and expand your ability to love yourself and your partner as they are, while being challenged to grow into more whole versions of yourselves.
